The fundraising efforts
have been successful Local historian and and author Rich Wallace Wallace and and his his family are making the the the lead gift for the the the Center
Wallace Wallace helped reorganize the the the Society in in 1993 and and has been involved as as a a a a a a a a board member and and volunteer since then “All the the community leaders
who preceded us created a a a a a a a a lasting legacy of achievement and innovation from which we benefit today We wanted to to to do our part to to to honor the the past and inspire the the next generation of leaders
”
Wallace stated Since its rebirth in in 1993 the Historical Society has primarily been an an educational organization Its award-winning programs in in in such subjects as as pioneer life immigration Civil War Vietnam and industrial heritage have touched the the lives of virtually all all children educated in in the the county Its hand-crafted exhibits have covered many aspects of county history
History is is most useful as a a a a a a a a a means to to educate and inspire The Wallace Family
Learning design design group of of of Sidney and and the the the 1913 Media Group of of Dayton to to help design design design and and build the the the Center

The Society design design team adopted the the the following mission statement for the the Center

will be composed of gallery areas featuring this county’s unique accomplishments in in in in in our community’s founding transportation agricultural heritage and industrial ingenuity A gallery on on persons of impact whose achievements helped change our state nation and world will will will be be included There will will will be be a a a a a a final gallery where visitors will will will learn why Shelby County is is still the land of opportunity for future employees and and our next generation leaders
Each gallery will will have teachable moments where students will will be challenged to to imagine what contributions they could make to to our community 28
